Check out our summer tours to cool destinations in Arizona to get a different view of the Grand Canyon... by mountain biking near the edges of the North Rim. Or perhaps you have the need to get a real vacation to the beach and then to the mountains, then our Northern California tours are for you! Obviously, if you live in another part of the world, you're also welcome to join us. These limited tours are guaranteed to go fast. So, book your space now!

Where: Santa Cruz, CA and Lake Tahoe areas
Airport to use: San Jose, Calif. (SJC)
Technical Level: Intermediate
Requirements: You must feel comfortable in technical terrain. That means being able to do up to 1-2 feet drop-offs, ledges, switchbacks, rock gardens, steep climbs/descents, rocky staircases and some lose terrain. You must have a very good cardio base and feel comfortable doing rides that may last up to 20 miles on singletrack. Expect riding at elevations of up to 8,000 ft. Plan on bringing your long-legged bike for maximum enjoyment. Protection gear such as elbow and knee pads is highly recommended on some rides.

OVERVIEW:

  • Day 1 (SUNDAY)
    • Today we'll pick you up from your hotel in Los Gatos, Calif. We'll take you to the RV campgrounds near Santa Cruz to leave your belongings and for a light snack. The tour starts today by riding on singletrack by the beach and redwood forest on the Wilder Ranch Park. After the approx. 16-mile ride, you'll be able to sunbathe on the very famous Santa Cruz shores. We'll spend the evening (after dinner) in downtown Santa Cruz.

  • Day 2 (MONDAY)
    • Today we'll ride on the Soquel Demonstration Forest located in the Santa Cruz Mountains. This is one of the testing grounds for Specialized and Santa Cruz bikes. You'll be riding 16 miles that are considered intermediate to advance on the technical level. However, the puck-o-meter is high on this trail. You'll find out why riders in the Bay Area love the SDF so much! Tonight we'll drive to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk to enjoy some of its summer activities.

  • Day 3 (TUESDAY)
    • We'll depart early in the morning to the Truckee area (approx. a 4.5 hr. ride). Truckee will be our base for the next 3 days. We'll explore trails in Truckee, Lake Tahoe and Downieville. This area is a mountain biker's paradise. After a good lunch, today you'll get to ride "Hole in the Ground" trail located in Truckee.

  • Day 4 (WEDNESDAY)
    • Today you'll get to ride the famous "The Flume" trail around Lake Tahoe. The vistas will be breathtaking. This is most likely the "flagship" trail in the Lake Tahoe area.

  • Day 5 (THURSDAY)
    • Today we'll drive to Downieville. You'll get a shuttle ride the trail system best known as the First, Second and Third Divides: 5,000 ft descent over 17 miles of technically singletrack. This is absolute fun!

  • Day 6 (FRIDAY)
    • Early departure back to the Bay Area. After so much fun riding, some of you may decide to stay in the Bay Area to relax in the "city" for a couple of days. If you're flying back today, we'll drop you off at the San Jose airport for your afternoon or evening flight.

Note: ALL NORCAL TOURS ARE OPEN TO SOLO RIDERS. A maximum of 4 customers will be allowed per tour for best comfort in the RV. Please contact us for rates if you have a need for a smaller private party.

Price Includes: RV sleeping accommodations as noted on rates chart; private guide; private transport throughout; park and campgrounds entrance fees; 3 meals per day in an open pantry/communal cooking format which includes all foods, snacks & beverages as indicated on your foods list.

Not Included: Bicycles (you'll need to bring your own or rent one from us). Domestic or international airfare to/from San Jose, CA; hotel stays and ground transportation before or after your tour; alcoholic beverages; items of personal nature and gratuities to your guide.
